Parliament has once again postponed the convention of Members of Parliament from Monday this week to Monday 29 June, 2020 to continue deliberating the 2020/2021 national budget.
In a press statement released yesterday, Speaker of the national assembly, Catherine Gotani Hara, said the decision was made as a way of easing pressure on parliamentarians so they can help their parties in their constituencies during the presidential election process which took place on Tuesday this week.
While confirming the communication, senior public relations officer for the Parliament, Ian Mwenye, said this is to allow parliamentarians enough time to complete their electoral related roles.
“Most of the members travelled to their respective constituencies to participate in the fresh presidential election. We have also come to understand that most of them play certain roles in this fresh presidential election. So, we noted that it would be a challenge for them to come back to parliament and reconvene on Thursday as was previously scheduled,” Mwenye said.
On 12 June, 2020, Minister of Finance, Joseph Mwanamvekha, presented K2.2 trillion national annual budget which parliamentarians are expected to continue deliberating before approving it.
