Malawian lady arrested for smuggling mobile phone into Zomba prison

ZOMBA-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police Service (MPS) in the Eastern region is keeping in custody a-24-year-old woman for trying to smuggle a cellphone into Zomba Maximum Prison.

The suspect has been identified as Beatrice Kasakala.

Zomba Police publicist, Patricia Sipiliano told The Maravi Post that the suspect went to the prison to visit her brother who was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in 2017 for defilement.

During the visit, the suspect took a loaf of bread as food for his brother and had hidden a cell phone inside the bread.

The prison warder on duty scanned the bread as per requirements and in the process, detected the cell phone.

The suspect Kasakala hails from Chelewani village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mchiramwera in Thyolo district.
