Malawi’s 2019 Presidetial Aspirant Ras Chikomeni arrested over Cannabis illegal possession

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police Service at Jenda station in Mzimba are keeping in custody two men for allegedly being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa without permit in the District.

The Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station Gladwell Simwaka said that suspects are Davide Chikomeni Chirwa,49,of Chitichi village in T/A Mzikubola in Mzimba district and Storm Kandodo,45, of Mpulula village in T/A Nsamala in Balaka district,were arrested during the night of August 6, 2026 at Jenda police roadblock.

Chikomeni who stood as independent presidential candidate for Malawi’s 2019 elections is also board member of Cannabis Regulatory Authority (CRA).

The two suspects were arrested by officers manning the roadblock after they were found carrying 19.2 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa in their Toyota Sienta registration number BW 2336 motor vehicle from Lilongwe direction to Mzuzu without supporting documents.

Meanwhile, the police have seized the suspected Cannabis Sativa.

The suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of Cannabis Sativa without permit after completion of paperwork.
