BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police at Jenda in Mzimba are keeping in custody two men into custody for cultivating Indian hemp without the necessary permits.
The suspects identified as Julius Zgambo, 27, and Alfred Zimba, 22, were arrested at Vibangalala in the district after being found with cannabis plants and loose cannabis in their possession.
According to Jenda Police spokesperson Macfaren Mseteka, Zgambo had cultivated 350 plants of cannabis and was also found with 2 kilograms of loose cannabis, while Zimba had 100 plants in his garden.
When requested to produce permits authorizing them to cultivate Indian hemp, the two men failed to do so, leading to their arrest.
The suspects have been charged with cultivating and possessing Indian hemp without a license.
The seized cannabis will be sent to the Lunyangwa research station in Mzuzu for analysis.
Both men are from the Vibangalala area, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mzukuzuku in Mzimba district.
