“Malawians to experience worst Christmas in history over high cost of living”-CAMA

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) has predicted doom for the coming festive season over high cost of living due to inflation escalating.

Malawians are deeping into their pockets hard to meet daily basis need including food, transportation, groceries and among others.

CAMA executive director John Kapito in press statement on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 made available to The Maravi Post observes that this year’s Christmas will be celebrated during one of the worst high cost of living in recent memory.

Kapito said this year’s festive period consumers are reminded to cut down on unnecessary spending especially on luxury goods and services.

“We have obligations to ourselves and families and that demands all consumers to be prudent during this festive season by cutting down buying products and services that are of no value to our wellbeing.

“Consumers are advised to cut down on
any unnecessary spending during this Christmas and Consumers must remember that they have bills to settle,” says Kapito.

He added, “It is important for every Consumer to pay attention to the demands of the market and adapt according to incomes.

“Every Consumer is aware that the Malawi economy is completely bankrupt and prospects for recovery are very minimal and therefore, it is important for Consumers to plan for Christmas period carefully”.

Kapito therefore urged the consumers to be alert during Christmas when doing any purchases or planning to spend money.

Malawians are grapling with high cost of living coupled with forex shortage just two years in power of President Lazarus Chakwera Tonse Alliance government.
