BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-About 59 combat engineers who were deployed by the Republic of Tanzania to restore and rehabilitate infrastructure destroyed by Tropical CycloneFreddy in the southern region have returned to their country.
However, the Tanzanian soldiers have left without carrying out any rehabilitation works as per their mission brief, due to delays by Malawian officials to allocate them tasks.
But deputy spokesperson for the Department of Disaster Management Affairs, Chimwemwe Njoloma told Zodiak online that the soldiers have returned at the lapse of their stay period.
The soldiers were expected to rehabilitate among others roads and bridges.
As of March 29, 2023, about 676 people died with 538 missing while leaving 659,278 homeless over Tropical Cyclone Freddy impact.
