KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Vendors plying their trade around Karonga main market have given the Karonga District Council a seven day ultimatum to address outstanding issues affecting the market or risk vendors boycotting paying market fees.
According to a letter addressed to the council Chairperson Councilor Belliam Msukwa, which the Maravi post has seen, indicates that the market committee have been wanting to engage the council on their grievances over the state of the market which have fallen on death ears hence they have been left with no other option.
“It was our intention to engage you on matters concerning the market but since you appear not to be interested to dialogue with us so this letter serves as a seven day notice to your office to resolve our grievances and failure to resolve them the market committee will mobilize all the market vendors to boycott paying market fees.” Reads part of the letter.
Furthermore the letter states that it is unfortunate that despite the market having good floodlights but remain unused due to failure by the council to buy electricity units among others.
However when contacted Karonga District Council Chairperson Belliam Msukwa admitted to have herd that a letter had been written to his office but he had yet to see and read the contents in the letter since he was out of office.
