SALIMA-(MaraviPost)-The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) constituents for Salima North West on Friday turned against the party’s Leader Lazarus Chakwera for being unfair over primary elections that put them out of context.

The constituents have accused the MCP leadership for betraying them over the staged primaries  it held two weeks ago that witnessed declaring Enock Phale as the legitimate winner.

The party held elections despite the seating Member of Parliament (MP) Jessie Kabwila protesting it arguing that she was “ambushed” for not properly informed.

This week the party’s Lakeshore regional committee released the final results of the primary elections whereby MP Kabwila was excluded in the list endorsing Phale as MCP Shadow lawmaker.

This prompted the constituents ganging against the party leadership for failing to hold fair primaries hence calling Kabwila to join the newly registered United Transformation movement (UTM) of Vice President Saulos Chilima.

“We thought MCP leadership could have the staged primaries with a political solution. But what we have witnessed is giving us a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Phale instead of our own Kabwila.

“She has suffered a lot. We want her to join UTM for better leadership. Chakwera has lost this constituency for good,” swears MCP Chairlady at Chitala ward.

The outspoken Kabwila could not deny nor accept the call saying “Am done with Chakwera. Be assured that am standing again in this constituency for the party area committees want me to join”.

The lawmaker alongside councilor Evanson Mpayani (Salima District Council Chairperson) met 108 area committees chairperson from both Chitala and Lipimbi wards.

MCP leadership has declined to comment on the constituents’ demand for Kabwila to join UTM.
