Meet 10 top celebrities who left entertainment industry becoming pastors

We’ve seen many important figures in the society who rose to fame and excelled in the industry they find themselves but later departed from the spotlight to focus on their new calling to serve God.

Below are some of the celebrities you never knew left their industries to become a preacher:

1. Chris Tucker

Chris Tucker was an amazing actor who acted in movies like “Rush Hour”, “Money Talks”, etc.

His movies are hilarious because he is a good entertainer. Although, he never officially left the Hollywood industry but decided to work once in blue moons.

When he became a born again Christian, he was selective of roles or characters he accepted in movies. He even refused to sign on the sequels to play Smokey.

2. Elizabeth Benson-Ameye

Liz Benson was a popular actress in the 90’s.

She played major roles in many movies and TV series including a popular soap opera called “Fortunes”.

The actress later left the movie industry to live a Christ-like life.

In 2006, she got ordained as an evangelist and currently running the Freedom Family Assembly in Warri, Delta State with his husband, Bishop Great Ameye.

3. Kirk Cameron

After years of being an atheist, Kirk Cameron gave his life to Christ and became a Christian at the age of 17.

Cameron had major success in “Growing Pains”.

He often requested that some parts be removed from the script for his TV character before he presented them because he felt those things were against his new found faith.

He dedicated his life to evangelism and training of Christians on how to evangelise.

4. Pat Attah

Pat Attah is a Nigerian movie actor who is very handsome. However, he no longer appears in movies because he has become a pastor and wouldn’t want any compromise.

The well-formed actor and singer resides in Hamburg, Germany. He preaches often and even uses social networks sites such as Facebook to spread the Word of God to everyone.

5. Mase

Mase is an international rapper whose Harlem World album came out in 1997.

He decided to step away from the entertainment industry and put an end to the rap game to focus on a calling from God after releasing his album “Double up”.

In 2012, Mase became a pastor and founder of El Elyon International Church and Mason Betha Ministries. However, his ministry came to a halt when he decided to return to the rap world because he thought his move to become a pastor was too soon.

6. Zack Orji

Zack Orji is a well experienced Nollywood actor and the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

He later devoted his life to God and became a full-time evangelist and a pastor at the Power Line Bible Church.

Although he is an ordained pastor who evangelises within and outside Nigeria, he still acts movies but carefully pick up roles.

7. Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams was a renowned musician.

Although, she never completely left the music industry, she decided to change the kind of music she sings to that of gospel. This she did when she was at the height of her career.

Michelle released a gospel album titled “Heart To Yours”.

8. Eucheria Anunobi

Eucheria Anunobi, like Liz Benson, was a subject of scandal after playing the role in the movie “Glamour Girls”.

After her failed marriage, she repented and gave her life to Christ.

She was ordained as an evangelist at the Fresh Oil Ministry, Egbeda, Lagos.

Eucheria now preaches as a pastor and counsels youths in the church.

9. Montell Jordan

Montell Jordan was a circular music artist who was behind the hit jam “This Is How We Do It”.

However, he decided to use his talent for Christ and reconnect with faith.

Jordan, his wife, Kristin and their children joined Victory World Church in Atlanta, where he became the Worship Minister.

He released a gospel album called “Shake Heaven” afterwards.

10. Majid Michel

Majid Michel is Ghanaian/Nollywood actor born and bred in Accra, Ghana. 

He publicly announced that he has given his life to Christ and will no longer be seen on romantic movies.

Although, he did not completely quit acting after becoming born-again, he only became selective of the kind of movies he acts in.
