BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Mphatso Zathu Foundation is optimistic about reducing menstrual poverty and improving girls’ participation in rural primary schools in Blantyre District.
Namwiyo Primary School is one of the schools that have benefitted from the foundation.
The school has received 450 reusable sanitary pads; that will help girls achieve high levels of success in their academic and personal lives.
The support will reduce absenteeism among girls who could stay at home during their menstrual period due to a lack of health products.
Team leader for the Foundation Ruth Chirwa says, “The advantage of these pads, is that they are cost-effective, as they are washable and that they can be used multiple times making them a sustainable and affordable choice.
“As the foundation focuses on girls’ health and education, we shall continue to provide them with menstrual health products as we know that not only do the pupils need pads but also other products including soap and basins among others”.
Commending the initiative, standard 6 teacher Christina Chimwara said the donation will help pupils as they will have menstrual pads to change when they are at school.
“Educating a girl is an important step toward promoting sustainable development and building a more equitable and prosperous society,” lauds Chimwara.
