BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Deputy Minister of Defence, who is also a member of parliament of the Blantyre City Centre (Ndirande), Chipiliro Mpinganjira has demanded his constituents to immediately identify the ring leaders in the Thursday’s embarrassing incident in which people booed and pelted stones at the convoy of President Peter Mutharika.
Mutharika, who was the last presidential candidate to present his nomination papers at the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), paraded in the streets of Blantyre together with his new running mate Atupele Muluzi.
But according to a video footage which is in circulation on social media, people who are believed to be supporters of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM spoiled the funny of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) faithful by booing and pelting stones at the presidential convoy.
Reacting, MP Mpinganjira has blamed what he called the criminal behaviour by opposition supporters and has since called upon his constituents to identify the perpetrators so that the law should take its course.
Mpinganjira’s reaction to the incident comes amid general feeling that the Malawi Police only acts when DPP officials or supporters are attacked.
However, Presidential spokesperson Mgeme Kalilani has downplayed reports that Mutharika’s motorcade was stoned saying the stoning could have been on cars of party supporters who had gone earlier before Mutharika.
Kalilani said Changed routes to return to Sanjika Palace because it was getting dark but he maintained that President Mutharika and his rung mate addressed people around Ndirande Market.
