Mwalweni hails Chitipa United’s spirit after holding BB to a goalless stalemate

Chitipa United

Chitipa United Coach Kondwani Mwalweni, hailed his side’s tactical discipline, and spirit shown to hold Nyasa Big Bullets to a goalless

draw in a TNM Super League match, played at the Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday.

The Rookies, who were playing in the top flight league for the first time, showed no nerves on the big stage as they battled hard to hold out comfortably against Bullets. The team was led by the impressive Peter Mughogho at the heart of the defense and goal custodian, Lloyd Munthali who was named man of the match.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Mwalweni could not hide his delight in his team’s wonderful performance.

“They had more of the control of the ball, and better chances to score; and the spirit showed by my players, was fantastic by the way we fought for every ball,” he said as his side picked up a vital point.

He further added, the point gained against one of the favorite to lift the Super League title, has given them confidence to play other big

matches against the best of the league.

“But to see my players doing this; coping under pressure, have the humility to fight for every ball and a result against one of the

best clubs in the country, is a satisfying feeling for me as a coach,” Mwalweni said.

However the Chitipa United’s technician concedes they have to sharpen their strike force in the upcoming matches, as with a little bit of luck, they could have claimed all the three points against Nyasa.

According to BB’s coach Swazrimo Ramadan, poor finishing and luck was the reason why they failed to pick up the maximum points.

He said, he was pleased with the performance and congratulated the lions of Chitipa for giving them a tough match.

Elsewhere on the opening day of the Super League, BeForward Wanderers bet defending champions Kamuzu Barracks 1-0, Wizards held Silver Strikers to a goalless draw, and newly promoted Master Security Services went down 1-0 to Dwangwa United.
