Mzuni FC to Change its name over new sponsorship

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Mzuzu University Football Club, popularly known as Mzuni FC, has announced plans to change its name forthwith, thanks to its survival in the current TNM Super League season.

According to Mzuni Football Club’s General Secretary, Donnex Chilonga, the Club’s management has had the idea of changing the name since Mzuzu University management weaned the Club at the onset of the current season, but that could not materialise since Super League of Malawi (SULOM) regulations do not allow a football club participating in the league to change its name when the same is still underway.

Chilonga further hinted that some potential sponsors have promised to start bankrolling the club in the coming Super League season.

“This name of Mzuni FC really should not be talked about anymore. We are soon writing SULOM and FAM so that the processing and changing of the name are actually done. We cannot continue selling the brand of somebody who does not give any penny to the welfare of the team in totality.”

“So, we are to change the name as soon as possible. And so far, we have two potential sponsors who have shown great interest to sponsor the team and discussions are underway. We are just waiting to finalise the season since we have survived in the league. We are going to reignite our discussion and conclude on the same,” said Chilonga.

The Club, which was on the verge of relegation, has survived in the said league after beating Civil Sporting FC at the weekend.

So far, the Club is on position 12 after finishing all its games and has managed to scoop 32 points.
