MZUZU (MaraviPost) — Mzuzu University (Mzuni) students Wednesday night almost burnt their fellow for allegedly being involved in the theft of a laptop in the university library, MaraviPost has learnt.
The alleged student Kwenji Tembo – a fourth year reading for Bachelor of Science Renewable Energy Technologies – was detained in the library the whole Wednesday night by university staff to avoid the impending mob outside.
MaraviPost crew that visited the scene around 23:00hrs saw a prepared fire with which the students had vowed “to roast their friend in.”
Tembo is said to have connived with an outsider to steal the laptop. The CCTV cameras in the library were used to unravel the whole ordeal, according to one of the student union leaders.
Dean of Students Lydia-Kishindo Mafuta was not readily available for comment as we went to press.
According to the student handbook, Tembo risks being suspended for over a year for his malpractice. Last week, so some students told MaraviPost, Tembo also appeared before the school’s disciplinary hearing for cell phone theft.
