PALERMO-(MaraviPost)-Nigeria’s former striker Akeem Omolade, 39, was found dead in his car few days after he complained of leg pains in Italy.

Omolade’s body was discovered by Italy’s emergency services in his Peugeot in the Sicilian capital Palermo on Monday, June 13, 2022.

According to the family statement, the former Torino striker had complained of pains in the leg days before the tragic incident.

However, at the time of the incident no external injury was found on him following an initial examination.

Before his demise, the Kaduna-born player was featured in Torino football club and he played in the Serie A between 2001 and 2003, The Sun reported.

The Italian football club has expressed the heartfelt condolences to the family of the late star.

He also represented 11 other clubs in the country including Treviso, Novara and Reggiana before he retired from active pitch days in 2017.

Following his departure from Torino, Omolade played in the lower leagues of Italian football. In 2011, he moved to Sicily to join Mazara before joining Ribera 1954 in Serie D in 2012. He later returned to Mazara in 2013.

In 2014, he joined Marsala-based Promozione club Borgata Terrenove and last season, he played with Altofonte in the first Sicilian category.

In a seperate incident, another promising Nigerian footballer, Christopher Edoghogho died after slumped during a football match in Benin City earlier this month.

Another referee Jose Arnoldo Amaya, 63, officiating an amateur match at the Toluca Stadium in Miramonte, Mexico recently died of internal bleeding after being viciously attacked by players and fans for showing a red card.
