World’s richest man Elon Musk is homeless

World’s richest ma, Elon Musk, has revealed that he is homeless and he has been sleeping on friends’s sofas despite being the world’s wealthiest man.

Musk disclosed this during an interview with Chris Anderson, the head of conference organisers at TED that was aired on Monday, April 19, 22.

Elon Musk is homeless

“I don’t even own a place right now, I’m literally staying at friends’ places,” said Musk.

Musk revealed that he stays with friends around San Francisco’s Bay Area, near the Tesla headquarters, when working in the city.

The founder of Space X, who recently attempted a hostile takeover of Twitter with a $43 billion offer, added that he does not indulge in splurging his wealth for personal consumption.

The billionaire who has an estimated net worth of $251bn (£207bn) disclosed that people have it all wrong, because he doesn’t live like a regular billionaire and spend his fortune on stuff like luxury items and lavish getaways, Independent reported.

“I don’t have yacht, I don’t take vacations, so it’s not that my personal consumption is high. One exception is a plane but if I don’t use the plane I have less hours to work,” added Musk.

The 50-year-old also said the assumption that all billionaires are bad is problematic since he does not consume billions of dollars as anticipated.

In June last year, Musk tweeted that his primary residence is a rental from SpaceX, worth $50,000, which near the company’s Texas location.

The Tesla chief executive later announced that his home in the Bay Area of San Francisco, which he kept only to rent out for events, is going on the market for about $37 million.

In 2021, the billionaire challenged the United Nations (UN) to show how $6 billion of his fortune could be used to overcome world hunger, prompting the UN’s World Food Programme to produce a detailed plan following remarks by the the director of the United Nations’ World Food Programme, David Beasley.

In an interview with CNN, Beasley disclosed that 2% of Elon Musk’s wealth could help solve world hunger.

Africa has what it takes to accelerate climate action through fourth industrial revolution technologies and innovations, experts say

The African Development Bank brought together various development and industry experts to discuss the potential of fourth industrial revolution technologies and innovations to tackle climate change in Africa.

The virtual panel — “Harnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) to Build Africa’s Climate Resilience: Practical case studies and experiences” — took place on the 31st March 2022 as part of the Second Global Gobeshona Conference.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Al Hamndou Dorsouma, Officer-In-Charge of the Climate Change and Green Growth Department at the African Development Bank, noted that technologies were already being applied on the continent to enhance climate-related research, enable precision agriculture and observe climatic and weather patterns, with impactful results. To demonstrate this, he cited the work of the Bank’s ClimDev Africa Special Fund, which supported the procurement of supercomputers that were instrumental in successfully monitoring and tackling the outbreak of desert locusts in East Africa in 2020. “This goes to demonstrate that fourth industrial revolution technologies and innovations can be leveraged towards solving problems that build resilience and enhance adaptive capacity to the impacts of climate change,” he concluded.

Yasemin Koc, senior science, technology and innovation expert at the African Development Bank, moderated the session. It kicked off with a keynote speech from Philip Thigo, Senior Adviser, Data, Innovation and Open Government in the Office of the Deputy President of Kenya. He observed that the fourth industrial revolution is facilitating a rapid pace of change, which can be applied to accelerate interventions that address pressing issues such as climate change. Thigo also recommended that governments invest more in skills development to enable the fast-growing population to benefit from technologies.

Ken Lohento, a digital agriculture strategy expert at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations Regional Office for Africa, highlighted the findings of a recently published report on the status of digital agriculture in 47 Sub-Saharan African countries. The report established that Africa holds immense potential for the use of digital technologies to transform the agricultural sector. He recommended moving beyond pilot projects to implementing full-scale projects.

Lhoucine El Khili, Acting Manager of the Data Center & System Engineering at the African Development Bank, spoke about the importance of finance to enable the design and application of technologies and innovations in Africa. He presented the Bank’s drone project application to the agricultural sector in Tunisia.

The private sector was also identified as critical to addressing the increasing frequency and intensity of climate change impacts on the continent. “Climate change is a major global threat and for a challenge as large as this…there needs to be a coordinated and multi stakeholder approach,” said Tapiwa Chiwewe, an independent fourth industrial revolution expert.

Bernard Banda, Acting Director, Economic Regulation at Zambia’s ICT authority, emphasized the need to strengthen the infrastructure available to support the development, use and scaling up of technologies. He also urged governments to increase the use of technologies. “Governments across Africa can use technologies for early warning systems which are critical for rural communities who largely practise agriculture. This will help them prepare better for shocks such as flood and drought,” he stated.

“Will writing not for the rich only”-Malawi Govt

By Chrissy Nkumba

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Government has disclosed that will writing is not only meant for rich people as regarded by many but for everyone in our societies.

This comes amid the continued reported cases of property grabbing in the country.

Speaking to Maravi Post, the Principal in the Ministry of Land, Reyneck Matemba, said land grabbing cases, that are on the increase in the country, can only be dealt with presence of a will.

Matemba is for everyone

Matemba also disclosed that the deceased Estates; Wills, inheritance and protection act is very clear on how wealth should be distributed when either a husband or a wife has passed.

He has therefore urged people to always have a Will for the benefit of those that are left behind such as children and relatives.

Previous reports revealed that the country’s senior Chiefs have been pocketing huge sums of money in dubious transactions with foreign investors and politicians to acquire land without formally following the right procedures.

Other reports also indicated that marginalized group in the society (women and children) are the immediate victims of land grabbing cases due to weak land laws in Malawi

Basquiat family exhibit over 200 unprecedented works

An exhibition featuring over 200 never-before-seen and rarely seen works by Jean-Michel Basquiat is being exhibited by the family with a mission to make public his young life. Basquiat, who died in 1988 at the age of 27, left works representing paintings, drawings, ephemera, and artifacts that have ended up in the private art collections of celebrities like Yoko Ono and David Bowie.

This exhibition at the Starrett-Lehigh building in Chelsea, Manhattan throws light on the ordinary life that Basquiat shared with his family including the things he enjoyed doing at home. Jeanine Heriveaux and her sister put the exhibition together. “We curated to every little detail. And these are all things that were an inspiration for Jean-Michel, the music that we heard when we were children. The songs that we listened to. The movies that we watched. The TV shows that we watched on Saturday mornings—all of that is incorporated into this exhibition, and a lot of the items that are in the show are original pieces,” she said.

Basquiat’s life did not just revolve around the family, he had friends in the neighborhood. “Jean-Michel was a very social being also. So he knew a lot of people. And one of the things that’s different about this exhibition is that there are people who may have spent some time with him, known him for a few weeks or a few months or a few years, and known him at a very specific point in time. And so, we are really the only people that can really put some context around that and give the perspective of our family,” said Lisane Basquiat.

The sisters have never taken on a project of this scale. They started organizing pieces in 2017 but felt that they still needed time. But the murder of George Floyd in 2020 motivated them to get it off the ground.

” I think now is just the right time in order to show a parallel between the voices and the narrative of what’s being discussed today and parallel back to what he is saying in his paintings. It is unfortunate that we are still having this conversation, but hopefully, people will understand and get an understanding of what Black people experience on a daily basis,” said Jeanine Heriveaux.

Tickets for the exhibition are available through Labor Day as of now, and the end date will be determined by public interest.

Car chaque vie compte. Car chaque destin compte.
