BLANTYRE(MaraPost)—In an apparent display of anger with what happened in Thyolo district on Sunday, ruling People’s Party (PP) members on Monday night attacked some Democratic Progressive Party (DDP) officials, including personal assistant to the party’s president, Ben Phiri at Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre.
DPP publicity secretary Nicholas Dausi told ZBS that the people who attacked them were led by PP official who was with PP
acting secretary general Paul Maulidi at the hotel.
According to Dausi, Phiri was severely beaten and he was rushed to Mwayiwathu Private Hospital where he is receiving treatment.
However, PP acting secretary general Paul Maulidi who was present at the hotel has dismissed accusations that the group involved in the incident was of PP supporters.
He said he witnessed the incident, but he cannot identify any of the people as PP supporters.
On Sunday, some people believed to be DPP supporters caused commotion in Thyolo which left a police officer and civilian dead.
The incident happened at a rally which was addressed by State President Joyce Banda.
