Six Roads Fund workers arrested for tollgate revenue theft

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Roads Fund Administration (RFA) has arrested six workers who have been allegedly stealing money at Chingeni and Kalinyeke tollgates by issuing duplicate receipts to motorists.

Masauko Ngwaluko, RFA spokesperson confirmed the arrest adding that the scammers were targeting motorists in the MK4,000 to MK5,000 category.

Tall-gate being abused

“Some Roads Fund Administration staff have been manipulating the toll payment system and about six members of staff have been caught and suspended,” said Ngwaluko.

However Reports on social media indicate that MK25 million has been stolen from the tollgates since they started operating.

Ngwaluko has dismissed the reports but refused to reveal exact the amount estimated to have been diverted into the pockets of the RFA workers in question. He however, indicated that investigations are still ongoing.

The tollgates were officially opened not more than six months ago and government is hoping to generate MK5.2 billion revenue annually from the two tollgates.
