SULOM postpones Ekhaya FC VS Mighty Wanderers

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has postponed the highly anticipated fixture between Ekhaya FC and Mighty Wanderers that was initially scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The development follows a formal request from Mighty Wanderers, who appealed for the postponement citing player fatigue.

Three of their key players were part of the Malawi National Football Team (the Flames) that traveled to Tunisia for an international assignment and have not had adequate rest since returning.

Adding to the challenge, the Nomads are set to play in the semifinals of the FDH Bank Cup this coming Sunday against Creck Sporting Club at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji, another high stakes encounter that requires full squad fitness and preparation.

SULOM’s Vice General Secretary, Donnex Chilonga, confirmed the development, saying the league governing body had considered the reasons presented by the Blantyre giants before granting the postponement.

“Yes, the game involving Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC will not take place as earlier scheduled. We have looked into the concerns raised by Wanderers regarding player rest and fixture congestion and we have decided to move the game to a later date,” said Chilonga.

He further clarified that all other Super League fixtures set for Wednesday and Thursday this week will go ahead as planned.

The rescheduling of the Wanderers–Ekhaya fixture is expected to be announced soon after consultations with all stakeholders, including broadcasters and match officials.

Football Ibrahim Phiri have since applauded SULOM’s decision, noting that fixture congestion has been a long-standing challenge in Malawian football, especially for top clubs involved in multiple competitions.

Meanwhile football analyst Charles Nyerende said it is surprising that SULOM is rushing against time to finish the league by December, yet the season is supposed to end in February 2026 according to the FAM calendar.

Wanderers are in second place in the Super League after playing 18 games, with 42 points, and are the only team so far that has not tasted defeat.
