LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s premier telecommunications service provider TNM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 donated MK3.5 million to Malawi Engineering Institute (MEI) towards this year lakeshore conference.

The 2024 Engineering Conference is slated for September 12-13 at Nkopola Lodge in the lakeshore district of Mangochi.

Speaking after receiving a dummy cheque at TNM Lilongwe office, Conference Chairperson Kondwani Chilembo was over the moon over the financial support

Chilembo said the funds will top the meeting’s budget defit.

He added that conference will provide an opportunity to evaluate the engineering profession and identify ways to enhance the sector.

“This year’s conference will be taking stocks on areas of infrastructure resilient, professional development, risk sharing in contractors and innovation and automation.

“We are also to review old policies as we are still operating under policies established in 1978. We need to review some of the country’s engineering policies to align them with current standards”, said Kalembo.

TNM’s Chief Technical Officer, Lloyd Gowela, said that the company is committed to supporting the conference, given its extensive collaboration with engineers in its work.

Under the theme, “Evaluating the Engineering Profession: Driving the Attainment of Malawi 2063” and is expected to attract around 400 engineers from across the country.

Malawi has over 3, 000 engineers that only 1, 200 are registered and operating legally.
