According to Former President Bakili Muluzi, Army General Vincent Nundwe should have been arrested for conspiring with Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima. Apparently, Vincent Nundwe was found to be in phone conversations with the two opposition leaders.
In one of those recorded conversations with the Opposition General Vincent Nundwe is overheard promising that he will overthrow Peter Mutharika in a coup.
According to Bakili Muluzi, President Peter Muthalika knows 48 rules of power. He may look like not thinking, he knows when to play his card well. Nundwe could have listened to my advice; “NO ARMY GENERAL FIGHTS WITH HIS COMMANDER IN CHIEF!”
Yes, Malawians are supposed to be protected, but he was talking to opposition leaders using his direct phone calls and the records government has of him and opposition talking, one can appreciate that this government is a loving government considering that he (Nundwe) is still not arrested. He must never ever tell opposition leaders, that he will overthrow government on the direct call.
The appointment of a new commander of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) was announced on 17 March, ending the short tenure of General Vincent Nundwe.
The office of President Peter Mutharika announced that Major General Peter Andrew Lapken Namathanga has been appointed as the new MDF commander and promoted to full general.
The statement said Gen Nundwe and his deputy had been assigned to other duties, using the ‘rtd’ abbreviation after their ranks to indicate they had been retired.
General Vincent Nundwe was quoted as saying, “My conscience is clear that I performed according to the requirement of the office.
However now that his duplicity has been exposed, Peter Mutharika is the one to be commended for not arresting and trying him for treason.
