In a shocking turn of events, Chatunga Bellarmine Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

The incident occurred on August 31, 2024, at Beitbridge.

According to eyewitnesses, Chatunga was stopped by a police officer for a traffic violation while driving his vehicle.

However, instead of complying with the officer’s instructions, Chatunga allegedly became aggressive and assaulted the officer.

The police officer, who wishes to remain anonymous, reported that Chatunga became enraged when asked to produce his driver’s license and vehicle registration.

“He started shouting at me and threatening to use his influence to have me fired,” the officer said.

Despite attempts to calm him down, Chatunga allegedly continued to assault the officer, leading to his arrest.

He was taken into custody and charged with assaulting a police officer, a serious offense in Zimbabwe.

This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many Zimbabweans expressing disappointment and shock that the son of a former president would engage in such behavior.

Chatunga’s father, Robert Mugabe, ruled Zimbabwe for over three decades before being ousted in a coup in 2017.

His legacy is marred by allegations of human rights abuses, corruption, and economic mismanagement.

The arrest of Chatunga has raised questions about the entitlement and impunity that often comes with being a member of a powerful political family.

Many are calling for him to face the full force of the law, regardless of his family connections.

As the case unfolds, Zimbabweans will be watching closely to see if justice will be served.

One thing is certain – this incident has brought attention to the need for accountability and the rule of law in Zimbabwe, even for those with powerful connections.
