Flames hang on to a draw against Lesotho

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)– The Malawi national football team, the Flames on Saturday afternoon failed to beat the visiting Lesotho team at Bingu National Stadium in the capital Lilongwe for a friendly match.

The match ended in one all draw between the two teams.

The Crocodiles of Lesotho, which is youthful, played a slow-pace game, despite getting a goal in the net, 44 minutes in the first half through their attacker Tsoanelo Koetle. Continue reading Flames hang on to a draw against Lesotho

Flames coach drops captain Banda, bemoans the standard of football not par with his standards

The Newly appointed Flames coach Ronny van Geneugden,wants to bring a different brand of Football to the Malawi team, as a result he has dropped captain Davie Banda from his first squad.

Van Geneugden, who was appointed in April, is preparing for a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros on 10 June.

Geneugden (RVG) recently attacked the country’s football style, comparing it to tennis. He complained that players make too many long balls, similar to lobbying a backhand. RVG made this comparison after he watched the game between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers, in the Airtel Top 8 Cup quarterfinal a few weeks ago at Mulanje Park. The Belgian Malawi national team coach, is on a mission of inspecting the country’s football clubs through the Super League and cup games.
