LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Central Region Boxing Association Committee has appealed to Stakeholders and well wishers to come forward and support them in developing the sport in the region.

This has been said by the Vice General Secretary of the committee, Edwin Mbewe at M1 Center Point in Lilongwe where the committee conducted the one day boxing festival on Sunday 6th November, 2022.

Almost 44 boxers were involved in the event and according to the committee, they organized the event to keep the boxers busy at the same time to appreciate the good work the coaches of different clubs are doing towards the development of the sport in the region.

“We want to keep the boxers busy as it is the only way of assessing them,this will be the way of selecting the boxers for international tournaments. We want to produce boxers who will present Malawi well outside the country.Let me appeal to stakeholders, companies, well wishers to come in and hold hands in developing the sport”,

“There are so many things we are lacking to be hosting the bouts so often, they can help us with anything either money or materials that will make a different as we do not have a steady funding. By next year we want to take the sport to all the nine districts in the Central Region hence appeal for the support,” said Mbewe.

To inspire the upcoming boxers, the committee included the former boxers Philimon Nkhakamila Banda and Acklas Machombo as the main bout.

The two legends who are now coaching the upcoming boxers,fought for 6 rounds and produced a Sparkling performance which entertained people who came at M1 Center Point.

Nkhakamila Banda won through unanimous decision after scoring 60-57, 60-54 and 60-57 from the three judges.
