Police: Lawrenceville-area mother shot, killed her daughter during altercation

A 47-year-old Lawrenceville woman died after she was shot, allegedly by her mother, during an altercation on Wednesday night, according to Gwinnett County police.

Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle said Treva Murray got into a fight with her mother, who has not been identified, at a home on Spanish Moss Court in unincorporated Lawrenceville. What provoked the fight is still under investigation, however.

The mother had not been charged with any crimes as of Thursday and the case will remain active until police have the autopsy results.

“During the altercation that took place, Murray attacked her mother, which resulted in Murray getting shot,” Winderweedle said.

Police were called to the home at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday on a report that someone had been shot. Officers found Murray’s body when they arrived at the scene. Her mother was at the scene when police arrived and homicide detectives interviewed her.

“Both lived inside the residence and witnesses on scene stated there was an altercation that led to the shooting,” Winderweedle said.
