BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Former Malawi president Peter Mutharika on Monday, April 8, 2024 donated food items to needy Chisigele villagers in the lakeshore district of Mangochi amid looming hunger.

The majority of recipients were members of the Muslim community, who expressed their gratitude for the generous gesture during the holy month of Ramadan.

Among the recipients was Fatima Ibrahim, who spoke on behalf of her fellow villagers, expressing their heartfelt thanks to Mutharika for providing them with much-needed food assistance.

“We are thankful to his excellency the former president Professor Mutharika for these hampers. As we break fasting this afternoon we will enjoy because we normally starve,” she said.

The former president’s act of kindness did not go unnoticed, as the villagers called on him to consider serving the nation once again, stating that he is the only hope for Malawi.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor for the eastern region also commended Mutharika for his generosity and assured him of continued support, pledging votes for him in the upcoming elections.

In response to the villagers’ pleas, Mutharika expressed his determination to make a comeback and promised to lead Malawi to a better future. “My people don’t worry, next year am liberating Malawi from hell,” he declared confidently.

President Mutharika has made it his mission to continue supporting and helping the people of Malawi, urging unity and harmony among different religious groups.

He called on Muslims to show love towards one another and live peacefully alongside Christians, emphasizing the importance of unity in diversity.

The event was attended by former first lady Getrude Mutharika and the director of women for the Eastern Region, Eluby Kandeu, who also praised Mutharika for his philanthropic efforts.
