Mchinji, February 13, 2018: Police in Mchinji have arrested a 40 year-old man Ezala Kamwendo for murdering his cousin, after catching him red-handed having sex with his wife.
Mchinji Police Publicist, Kaitano Lubrino told Malawi News Agency (MANA) that in September last year, Lebiasi Timoti who hails from Mavwere Village, T/A Mavwere in Mchinji reported to the police that his younger brother, Smith Timoti (now deceased) had gone missing. Five children reported missing at transit center in Mchinji
Officials at the Salvation Army Transit Center in Mchinji district, are searching for five children, under the ages of 14 and 15 years. The reports reaching the Maravi Post say the children have been missing since Tuesday.
One of the senior officers at the Transit Center, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed on Wednesday saying the five are suspected to have jumped the Center’s brick fence in the early hours of the Tuesday.
The development has heightened fears of child trafficking in the district.
Among the escapees according to our source, are two girls, one from Mzimba district and the other one from Dowa, and three boys, one from Lilongwe and two from Kasungu.
“Yes, five children are missed here and we believe that they jumped our fence. However, we suspect that this was with influence from someone, therefore we cannot conclude that it was child trafficking, ” said the source.
The source, however added that the Center together with the Police, immediately launched a search and an investigation on the matter.
Records show that the escapees have been at the Transit Center for just 2 to 3 months, after they were rescued from traffickers with different intentions.
Mchinji police are yet to issue a comment on the matter.
Malawian Musician John Malunga arrested for selling counterfeit products
MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)– renown Malawi musician, John Malunga is under police custody in the boarder district of Mchinji, for allegedly selling counterfeit products.
Mchinji Police Station spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino, told The Maravi Post that Malunga was on contract with C & NF, a Mulanje-based company which produces and sells Ruo Body Cleaner (Ufa wa mbatata).
The company hired the suspect to promote and sell their product, considering his talent and fame as a musician, he could do a better marketing job of the products.

Primary school headmaster hangs himself after impregnating standard 7 pupil
Fifty-five year old Laini Chirwa, who was the primary school headteacher at Mduwa in Mchinji, on Tuesday committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree after he was accused of impregnating a 15-Year old standard 7 student.
Mchinji Police Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino, confirmed this to The Maravi Post.
According to Lubrino, a probable cause for the head teacher to take his life could be the headteacher was afraid of his wife after the news reached her.
“His wife was demanding the truth on the matter. She threatened to end their marriage,” said Lubrino.
He said the headteacher then left the house and hanged himself inside the school woodlot.
The deceased hails from Chiosya village in the area of Sub-Traditional Authority Simphasi in the same district.
