Neno elderly man gruesomely murdered, two men arrested

NENO-(MaraviPost)- The Malawi police in Neno, are keeping in custody two men on suspicion that they assaulted 70-year old Kachule Mtepheya, inflicting him with injuries leading to his death.Neno Police Station Spokesperson Raphael Kaliati, identified the suspects as Memba Damiano, 24, and Simeon Charles aged 25, both from Felemu village, Traditional Authority (T.A.) Mlauli, in the district.

Kaliati told The Maravi Post that on Tuesday evening this week, the deceased Mtepheya, left his home to buy some medicine at a grocery within the village.

On his way back home, the deceased met the said suspects, who were allegedly drunk; without any apparent reason, they started assaulting the elderly man.

The police publicist added that in the course of the assault, the late Mtepheya shouted for help. In response, some people rushed to the scene, and the suspects runaway.

After the incident the late Mtepheya went to the house of one of the suspects, Charles to ask him the reasons for assaulting him but instead upon arrival there, the suspect took a piece of wood and hit Mtepheya again on the chest.

“The matter was reported to Mpatamanga police roadblock, and a medical report was issued for Mtepheya to get medical assistance. Later he was admitted at Chifunga health center, where he was referred to Lisungwi community hospital, but breathed his last on Thursday.

“Postmortem conducted at Mwanza District Hospital, revealed that death was due to internal bleeding. The suspects are therefore, in police custody and will appear before court where they will answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code,” said Kaliati.

Kasungu Primary school teacher murders head teachers’ son

Chaseta is in police custody forallegedly murdering his head teacher’s son.

KASUNGU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi police in Kasungu, are keeping in custody a 26-year old teacher for allegedly murdering his head teacher’s son.

Kasungu Police station spokesperson Edna Mzingwitsa, identified the suspect as Edwin Chaseta, a primary school teacher at Mkanakhothi, while the deceased was 21-Year old William Mwandira.

Mzingwitsa told The Maravi Post that the suspect committed the crime on Sunday at around 1600 hours, at Mkanakhothi Trading Centre in the district; this was after the suspect was annoyed with the presence of the deceased at a bar.

The suspect thereafter kicked at late Mwandira’s beer bottle. Eventually, a quarrel ensued between the two, but it was settled by some teachers who were also in the bar.

The police publicist said that the suspect acted this way because he was on bad terms with the deceased’s father.

After the tension calmed down, Chaseta left the bar for his house where he took a knife and hid at a bush along the road to the deceased’s house.

“The deceased and Mr. Mike Kanyika, who is also a teacher at Mkanakhothi Primary School, left the bar together for their houses. However, on the way, the suspect emerged from a bush and stubbed the deceased twice on the stomach and then run away. However Mike Kanyika, followed him and managed caught the suspect.

“The deceased was taken to Kawiya Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Postmortem conducted at the facility revealed that cause of death was due to loss of blood because of the severe wounds. Therefore the suspect has been charged with murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code,” Edna Mzingwitsa said.

The deceased Mwandira hailed from Kanyakatika village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Chulu in Kasungu while the suspect Chaseta, comes from Mtawa village, T.A Mwansambo in Nkhotakota district.

Kasungu man arrested for murdering wife and aunt 

Wilima: to appear before the court for murdering his wife

KASUNGU-(MaraviPost)-Pilicecin kasungu report the arrest on march 23, 2017 of 35-year-old  Elvis Wilima, who is being charged for allegedly murdering his wife.

Kasungu Police station deputy spokesperson Harry Namwaza, said the suspect Wilima is alleged to have killed his wife, Likisina Mejasani. They also say Wilima murdered her using a hoe handle when the two were in the garden.

Namwanza told The Maravi Post that the suspect has been on the run since September, 2016 after allegedly murdering his wife.

He added that it is yet to be established by police the reasons the suspect committed the criminal act, saying the time the suspect murdered his wife, he was on court bail granted by the High Court for allegedly murdering his aunt.

“As Wilima was on the run, police launched a manhunt for him until on March 23, 2017 when he was arrested. The suspect was arrested at Chisemphere, where he was working as a tenant of a man identified as Khumbo.

“The suspect has been charged with double murder and will appear before court soon when police enquiries are completed,” Namwaza said.

The suspect Wilima hails from Kajontha village, Traditional Authority (T.A) M’dunga in Kasungu district.
