Organisers have said all is set for the long awaited Land of Poets Festival scheduled to take place at Blantyre Cultural Center(BCC) on 3 July under the theme ”Poetry ,expanding wisdom, deepening knowledge”

Confirming the development, Poetry Association of Malawi Publicity Secretary Sylvester Kalizang’oma said this year’s event will be one of its kind compared to the past events saying during the festival they will also honour Veteran Poet Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga with the longtime achievement Award.

“I would like to assure Malawians that this year’s event will be the best considering that we will have the cream of poets and apart from being an achiever, Okomaatani Malunga will also perform,” he said

Kalizang’oma said the festival has been organized by PAM in the past years but now it is organized by an Independent Committee and that its budget is pegged at K 3.5 million.

He said, despite making trends in readiness for the event, they are looking for well-wishers to make their contributions.

“We are still looking for well-wishers to help us so that we can have a successful event,” he added.

During the event, different poets from across the country will perform including Raphael Sitima, Yankho Seunda, Joseph Madzedze, Luckier Chikopa, Nyamalikiti, Given Chichitike, Aunt Geti, Samuel Joseph, Atcheya Frank Naligonje, Mr Malawi, Agoloso and Chichiri Prison Cultural Troop among others.

Land of Poets Festival, an annual event which brings poets together to showcase their talents and interaction, started 4 years ago in 2012 and this year’s event will attract an entry fee of K1000 per head.
