Malawi Parliamentary Women’s Caucus backs GM crop trials to avert food crisis

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Parliamentary Committee on Women Caucus, said it supports the current research on Genetically Modified (GM) crops in a bid to avert another food crisis in Malawi.

The Committee’s stand comes amid heavy debate among the public on whether the Malawi should embrace GM crops surpassing hybrid seed for increased food production.

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is currently undertaking several crops trials, including cow peas, soya been, and cotton seed.

Water Mission launches MK90 million WASH project in Salima, targets 6,000 households

– The Water and Sanitation Health (WASH) MK90 million project to enhance access to quality water as a means to avert fears of waterborne diseases had berm launched in Salima North-West constituency at Traditional Authority (T.A) Khombedza.

A project of the Water Mission, a faith-based organization, it targets 6,000 households that will be able to access the quality water service at an affordable rate.
