Malawi’s chess wonderboy, Alipo Namangale, is riding high on the wave of success after a stellar performance at the Africa Schools Individual Chess Championship in Mombasa, Kenya. The nine-year-old phenom earned the Conditional Candidate Master title and finished 20th out of 150 participants in the prestigious tournament.

Upon his return to Malawi, Alipo expressed his excitement and anticipation for the next big challenge: the World Schools Team Chess Championship in Washington DC, USA, scheduled for August.

“I am looking forward to an opportunity to participate in the World Schools Team Chess Championship with my peers or other tournaments in Africa so that I continue improving until I become the best,” Alipo said, beaming with confidence.
