Lilongwe, September 15: Police in Lilongwe on Sunday arrested Innocent Grenord aged 20 from Ngwepa Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Maganga in Salima district for allegedly murdering his brother in-law Austin Nkhoma aged 50 from Mpondeni Village, TA Maganga in Salima district.
According to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Sub-Inspector Kingsley Dandaula, the deceased and the suspect lived in the same house at Chimoka and both worked for PLEM Construction Company in Kanengo in Lilongwe.
He said on 13 September the deceased and the suspect went to their office in Kanengo to collect their wages but for some reason only the deceased was paid and that made the suspect furious and eventually cut Nkhoma’s neck with a knife when they got home later in the night.
“It was at around 8 o’clock in the morning when the neighbors were surprised not to see the deceased around the house as they always do so they decided to get into the house where they found the deceased very weak and with a cut in the neck and took him to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he died,” said Sub-Inspector Dandaula and added that meanwhile Nkhoma’s body was at Kamuzu Central Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem.
Dandaula said the suspect was expected to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
