LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As the 2022/2023 TNM Super League season kicks off today Saturday, March 19 many teams are anticipating to yield something at the end of the season,Wanderers is not exceptional as they have won only one league title in nine solid years.
The Nomads start the campaign with a fierce battle against the city rivals Nyasa Big Bullets FC in a Blantyre Derby at Kamuzu Stadium today which will be the opening game of the season.
Over the years a lot have happened when the two teams meet, mostly the games have been ending in stalemate or Nyasa Big Bullets FC defeating their neighbors.
Last time Wanderers defeated Bullets in the league was on 21st September, 2021 at Kamuzu Stadium,Vincent Nyangulu scored the lone goal at 36th minute to end the People’s team dominance over Nomads. But before that Bullets remained unbeaten by Wanderers since 2012.
What is interesting now is that the two teams have made several changes both in the technical and players.
Some players have crossed the floor from Nyasa Big Bullets to Wanderers including veteran Striker Chiukepo Msowoya and defender Miracle Gabeya, Eddington Ng’onamo and Joseph Kamwendo have been both roped in the technical panel.
Bullets have chased almost all the old guns and promoted lads from their reserve side aiming at defending the Championship under Zimbabwean tactician Callisto Pasuwa.
Will Ng’onamo Eddie the Nomads into a victory tomorrow in the Blantyre Derby fixture and start the Campaign on high note?
Or Pasuwa will inject another pain on Wanderers supporters at the very first day of the league?
Answers of these questions will be known after regulation time at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday. Wanderers last won the league in 2017.
Callisto Pasuwa, Bullets Head Coach, said they have prepared well for the season though they have assembled youthful players which need more time to be rebranded.Pasuwa added the derby is a big game hence he will not put much pressure on the youngsters. He further said,it will be tough to defend the league as they are rebuilding the team.
His Counterpart Eddington Ng’onamo said they have prepared well to kick start the league with a victory over their crosstown rivals.
“We have told our boys to be working hard as it is their job, they must be well disciplined and be winning games. They beat us 4-1 in Airtel top 8 this is our time to revenge”, Ng’onamo said.
