Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Francis Kasaila on Tuesday assured Parliament that his ministry will repatriate 28 Malawian girls who are stranded in Kuwait. Responding to a question raised by some law makers on the status of the girls in the foreign Country, Kasaila said the ministry has already sourced funds to bring them back.“Let me inform the concerned members that my Ministry has already sourced funds for the repatriation of our young girls who are stranded in Kuwait,” said Kasaila.

According to him, what is happening is that the girls have original passports but all are in the hands of unknown people.”

He said his Ministry has sourced money from the Minister of Finance and that the repatriation process will be done soon.

Recently, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs Rejoice Shumba is quoted in the Media saying “government is working hand in hand with Kuwait to repatriate the victims.”

Malawi government also deployed the Minister of Labor to connect to his Kuwait counterparts on the matter.

There is report that legal flaws in the current migration laws are fueling unregulated export of

Labor due to a number of agencies which continue to be established.  Government has since issued a ban on all labor exports to the Middle East.
