In Parliament on Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture George Chaponda described Rumphi East Member of Parliament (MP) Kamlepo Kaluwa’s speech as always a regionalist.

Chaponda reaction follows Kamlepo’s remarks on the disbursement of treadle pumps to the districts that the ministry of agriculture has underscores. According to the minister’s report, southern districts such as Phalombe, Nsanje as well as Mulanje will get a big number of treadle pumps than Chitipa and Karonga.
However, this did not go well with the Rumphi east MP who described it as unbiased.
“Why should Karonga and Chitipa get 30 treadle pumps while other districts in the south such as
Phalombe get over 2000?, let the minister explain that,” wondered Kamlepo.
In his response, Chaponda said “this is because Karonga and Chitipa have different kind of irrigation schemes in place than the mentioned districts of the south.”
Kamlepo stood on point of order saying Chaponda was in self exile during the one party era.
According to him, he is the one fight for the country’s freedom hence it is dishonest for the Minister to describe his speech as a regionalist. Some law makers from the central region concurred with Kamlepo for calling the distribution of the treadle pumps to the district as dubious.
