
NANKHAKA STADIUM, LILONGWE (Maravi Post)—After losing two super league games in a row, the Lilongwe based corps, Blue Eagles FC, issued a statement of intent that they are serious with their campaign of chasing this seasons TNM Super League title after beating Civo United 2-0 in match which was played before a sizeable crowd at Nankhaka Stadium in the capital Lilongwe on Saturday.The generally less entertaining match saw Blue Eagles’ Gilbert Chirwa capitalizing on a mistake by Civo United goalkeeper who left the goal posts to clear a ball. The ball landed to Blue Eagle’s Chirwa who had an easy task of just shooting the ball to the open goal posts.
Came second half, Victor Nyirenda scored the cushioning goal for Blue Eagles leaving Civo United with no chance to even score a consolation goal.
In a post match interview, Blue Eagles Coach Dicreck Msakakuona praised his charges for winning the game observing that it was a difficult game cognizant of the fact they are coming from a two game defeat
“It was a difficult game. Civo United is a good team and we are happy that we have won the game,” said Decreck Msakauona.
His counterpart, Civo United Coach Millias Pofera Jegwe promised that he will rectify the mistakes which his charges committed in today’s game.
“We didn’t utilize the chances we created. Again, the goalkeeper let us down but we will talk to him because he is the same boy who brought smile to the supporters after saving a penalty in a previous game,” said Civo United Coach Millias Pofera Gwede.
Today’s victory has seen Blue Eagles topping the Super League table with 21 points.
Elsewhere, MAFCO collected maximum points at Chitowe Stadium after beating Moyale Barracks FC by one goal to nil. Versatile striker Richard M’mbulu scored the goal for the Salima based soldiers.
At Mzuzu Stadium, EPAC FC collected maximum points after beating Mzuni FC by one goal to nil thereby breaking the unbeaten record for Mzuni FC this year at their home yard.
At Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Azam Tigers also collected maximum points after beating the visiting Kamuzu Barracks by one goal to nil.
