LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police Service Athletes from all regions gathered at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe from Friday to Sunday,January 30,2022 to start preparations for this year’s SARPCCO games scheduled for September in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Scouting for the Athletes to represent Malawi Police Service at this year’s Southern African Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (SARPCCO) tournament in Tanzania started over the weekend.

The tournament involves police regions to give platform to everybody who has talent to showcase.

The selection is done on merit not as it has been the case in the previous years where Blue Eagles FC, Blue Eagles Netball Club and other Athletes from Headquarters were just picked.

Senior Superintendent Jeremiah Mwakayoka who was the overseer for the Athletes from Southern Region has recommended the criteria which has been followed this year saying this will show some transparency and accountability in selecting those to represent the institution in Tanzania.

Mwakayoka therefore hailed the Police Chief George Kainja leadership for coming up with the new procedures saying previous years talents from other regions were sidelined hence the poor performance of the team.

He added that this will help the team to perform well and bring home more medals than before.

The Sports Coordinator in the Malawi Police Service, Audrow Makonyola, said the process has gone on very well

He added that the development has helped them to identify good talents from all regions which can be used in their Senior teams including Blue Eagles FC, Blue Eagles sisters and Volleyball team.

The games which were played during the three day tournament were;Football, Netball,Volleyball, Tennis, Chess,Darts and Athletics just to mention but a few.

Malawi Police Service football team last won the Championship of the SARPCCO in 2015 when Derklek Msakakuona was coach for the area 30 outfits.
