Opposition DPP’s inner fights rage on as court stops Nankhumwa from summoning

1 Min Read

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The High Court Judge Justice Howard Pemba on Friday, August 11, 2023, granted an injunction stopping the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from summoning its vice president for the southern region, Kondwani Nankhumwa from a disciplinary hearing.

The lawyer for Nankhumwa, Wapona Kita confirmed that the court in Lilongwe issued a stop order after considering that the party’s disciplinary committee which comprises seven members is illegally constituted as the party’s constitution recognizes a five-member panel.

In July this year, DPP National Governing Council (NGC) Meeting in Mangochi appointed two more members to the committee.

Nankhumwa was to appear before the select for holding whistle-stop rallies in Blantyre last month.

There has been a leadership crisis in DPP since the party lost June 2020 Presidential elections.
