In the ongoing extradition case involving the Bushiris, legal representatives for Mary Bushiri have called on the South African government to present concrete evidence justifying her extradition. Mary Bushiri faces allegations of fraud and money laundering, but her defense team argues that there is insufficient evidence linking her directly to the charges.
During a recent court session, defense lawyer Annelene Van De Heever cross-examined state witness Sibongile Mzinyathi, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for Gauteng province. Van De Heever contended that the case against Mary Bushiri lacks substantial evidence and urged that the extradition application be dropped.
State lawyer Dzikondianthu Malunda indicated that the prosecution will respond to the defense’s claims in the final analysis. Meanwhile, Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza has adjourned the case to tomorrow morning, when the defense will continue its cross-examination of the state witness.
