LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Young people have been challenged to actively participate in the implementation of just launched National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC)’s Advocacy and Communication Strategy for 2024-2027.
Strategy aimed at empowering young people to take significant action on climate issues.
The document is anchored on the “Green Power” framework, designed to influence decision-making and inspire youth to advocate for a sustainable future.
Launching the strategy on Friday, October 4, 2024 in the capital Lilongwe, Non-Governmental Organizations Regulatory Authority (NGORA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Edward Chileka Banda urges youths to participate fully in the implementation saying they are key in addressing impact of climate change.
Chileka emphasized that the strategy’s role as a crucial tool for fostering youth engagement in climate change discussions.
He therefore underscored that the active participation of young people is vital for effectively addressing the environmental challenges facing the country.
“Let everyone be part of this strategy’s implementation. As young people we need to embrace all adaptation measures outlined in the strategy to address effects of climate change.
“Action must be at the centre in the implementation of the strategy without waiting to be paid anything”, dares Chileka who donated MK0.5 million towards NYNCC’ Strategy implementation.
NYNCC National Coordinator Dominic Nyasulu said the strategy focuses on overcoming barriers to youth involvement in climate action.
Nyasulu indicated that the document aims to empower children and youth with tools and support needed to contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet for all.
“The strategy has recognised all other critical local and international policies surrounding climate change and environmental issues while aiming at complementing existing program interventions and NYNCC Strategic Plan 2021-2025.
“This advocacy and communication strategy will also help NYNCC to plan in terms of monitoring, evaluating, accountability and learning as the network implements this strategy”, says Nyasulu.
With financial support from Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) through Save The Children International (SCI) in Malawi, NYNCC will implement the strategy with other partners.
