LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Former State House deputy chief of staff Godfrey Arthur Jalale’s lawyer, Khwima Mchizi, has challenged the State’s request for further detention of his client, who is accused of stealing four dogs from State House.

Mchizi told the court that investigators had already breached the 48-hour rule, arguing that Jalale was arrested on Friday and was only brought before court today.

“For them to come before this court of law after 48 hours and pray for further detention of the accused is without basis,” said Mchizi.

The lawyer asked the court to release Jalale with or without bail.

Senior resident magistrate Robert Botha has reserved his ruling on both the bail application and the State’s request for continued detention till Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Former President Lazarus Chakwera’s State House faces numerous allegations of public resources mismanagement.
