MZIMBA-(MaraviPost)-Jane Liwonde, a young intern at M’mbelwa Council in Mzimba District, has apologized to Minister Alfred Gangata and Principal Gender Officer Shadreck Mingo for falsely claiming to be a relative of the minister in an attempt to extend her expired internship contract.

The apology comes after Liwonde’s actions were discovered, and she has acknowledged her wrongdoing, stating, “I sincerely apologize to Minister Alfred Gangata and Principal Gender Officer Shadreck Mingo for my actions. What I did was inappropriate, and I fully acknowledge my wrongdoing. I have no other words except to ask for forgiveness”.

Liwonde’s false claim was an attempt to manipulate the system and gain an unfair advantage, but she has now realized the gravity of her actions and is seeking forgiveness.

She has also used this opportunity to advise fellow youths to refrain from impersonation and making false claims, warning that such actions may attract police intervention and have serious consequences.

Minister Gangata and Mingo have accepted Liwonde’s apology and advised her to uphold honesty and integrity at all times, emphasizing the importance of ethical behavior in all aspects of life.

The Officer-in-Charge for Mzimba Police Station, Brighton Mwase, has warned the public against engaging in fraudulent practices, particularly those involving the misuse of other people’s names, highlighting the seriousness of such offenses.

In a related development, Christopher Melele, Executive Director of the Mzimba Institute for Development Communication Trust (MIDCT), has advised the council not to extend internship contracts beyond their stipulated period, noting that such malpractice deprives other youths of opportunities to access internship placements.
