Malawi’s Nkhata Bay Central election case: Vuwa Kaunda adamant MK40 million payout from Mhone

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Lands Minister Simon Vuwa Kaunda who the High Court in Mzuzu ruled as the rightful winner of 21 May elections in Nkhata Bay Central Constituency, says Ralph Mhone of Peoples Party (PP) still owes him the MK40 million which the court said is the costs for the loss of the case.

Vuwa Kaunda’s decision who is Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) comes on the heels of an appeal which Ralph Mhone has made to to the Supreme Court in Mzuzu to review the judgment which the lower court made on 16th September.

Speaking in reaction to the appeal, lawyer representing Simon Vuwa Kaunda, Leonard Mbulo, said the appeal has nothing to do with K40 million which the Mzuzu High Court charged Ralph Mhone as costs for the loss of the case.

“We are indeed served with the Notice of Appeal but that has nothing to do with the payment of the costs which the High Court said should be

paid because that’s what the court ruled,” Mbulo said.

Mhone has appealed the judgment by the Mzuzu High Court Judge, Thomson Ligowe, claiming that the judge did not follow some principles of the law in his judgment.
