KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of Karonga Diocese has called upon Malawians who support different political parties to prepare themselves for the court’s decision on the presidential case that is heading towards its conclusion in the coming fortnight.

Speaking during a thanksgiving mass in Karonga, Bishop Mtumbuka, who is well known for his political objectivity, said whether the party they support will carry the day or not, Malawians have to prepare and accept the decision the court will make over the case.

“In my view that we should try to take this issue and isolate it completely from what has been said before is not right because it’s like human beings are being programmed; which is not right. As a country, we have all agreed to live in peace because no one is above the law. It might be painful to be told by the court that what you thought was not right but the overriding principle is that we are all Malawians; despite our political differences,” said Bishop Mtumbuka.

When asked to comment on the same, University of Livingstonia Political Commentator, George Allan Phiri, said the court judgment is always final and let everyone obey and abide by it when the Constitutional Court passes it.

Dr Saulos Chilima of UTM and Dr Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) dragged Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to court for allegedly mismanaging the 21 May tripartite elections. They are seeking a nullification of the electoral results.

The Constitutional Court sitting in Lilongwe has been hearing witnesses from both Petitioners and respondents and it is yet to finish hearing the same by 6 December, 2019.
