The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has today arrested the proprietor of the First Discount House (FDH) Bank, Dr. Thomson Mpinganjira in connection with the allegations of bribing the five judges hearing the presidential election case in Lilongwe.

According to a press statement released by ACB, on 8th December 2019, the Bureau received a complaint that some people were attempting to bribe the said judges.

Immediately, the organization instituted an investigation into the matter, and today the same has arrested the said person in connection with the bribery attempts.

ACB has further indicated that Dr Mpinganjira will be taken to court after recording a statement from him.

While confirming the arrest, ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, has said the institution has indeed arrested Dr. Mpinganjira, but she has declined to divulge more information.

Last week, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General, Reyneck Matemba, held a press briefing in Lilongwe where he stresses that the Bureau received a complaint that some people wanted to bribe the judges.

He, however, did not disclose the names of the individuals, but simply hinted that the Bureau has put in place a taskforce to investigate the matter.
