BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Malawian born but South Africa based business tycoon, Simbi Phiri, has obtained an injunction from the High Court in Blantyre restraining the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets from causing defamatory and malicious publication about his business.
Recently, as one of the DPP strategies to silence allies of opposition parties, DPP cadets have been relentlessly cooking false stories with an aim of tarnishing the image of Phiri, who is allegedly to be the financier of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party.
Few days ago the DPP social media agents reported that Simbi was involved in corrupt deals to do with a water project in Giyan, Limpopo where he pocketed close to 3.2 billion Rands but did not complete works on the project and fled the site.
But on Thursday, the business tycoon sought a court relief through his lawyer Cassius Omar Chidothe.
According to the order made available to Maravi Post, state house press officer Justice Mponda and lawyer Bob Chinkango have been included as first defendant and sixth defendant respectively.
The other defendants include Malawi Voice, editor of As It Is Happening, Chauncy Mpho Jere and administrators of My Malawi My Views.
“This order prohibits you from doing the act set out in this order. You have a right to ask the court to vary or discharge this order.
“If you the within named defendants or any of your servants or agents howsoever disobey or neglect to obey this order, you shall be liable to process of execution to compel your obedience and you may be held in contempt of court and be liable to committal thereof,” reads the order in part.
Few days ago, a leaked document allegedly to be prepared by US based DPP strategist Foster Fundi, indicated that tarnishing the image of Simbi Phiri and Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is one of the issues the DPP must handle as fresh elections are fast approaching.
“For example, I would suggest that we sacrifice a significant package with which to meet strategic key authorities in relevant sectors in South Africa who can, possibly, ignite charges against Simbi regarding the Giyani Water Project, which I am told its trial was abandoned. Perhaps the background assignment, which we may involve our diplomatic mission entourage in SA, would be to establish the grounds on which those charges were abandoned and examine the possibility of resuscitating them,” the document reads.
Simbi Phiri became an enemy of the ruling party after it was established that he supports MCP.
But in his reaction, he said there many politicians who get financial support from him including the DPP as party and individuals.
