BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Two former Silver Strikers players, Lazarus Nyemera and Mike Mtonyo, have dragged the TNM Super League side to court for unlawful termination of their contracts.
This comes just barely a week after Football Association of Malawi (Fam) ordered the Lilongwe giants to pay Mighty Be Forward Wanderers K8 million as a compensation for Nigerian Striker Babatunde Adepoju’s failed deal.
The two players were deemed surplus at the club alongside other 18 players before the club appointed Zambian mentor Daniel Kabwe.
Dissatisfied with the termination, the two players have separately dragged the club to court on the issue.
According to legal documents in possession of the Maravi Post sports desk, Nyemera is represented by John Tennyson & Associates whereas Mtonyo is being represented by Namanja and Associates.
Nyemera is demanding a compensation of K3.8 million from the club whereas Mtonyo is wants K2.1 million.
“Our client has advised that he signed a contract with your club on January 9, 2018 which was valid for three years and was to expire on January 9, 2021. Our client informed us in a letter dated January 30, 2020 you unilaterally terminated the said contract due to poor performance,” reads part of the letter.
“Our client informs us that he was never called to any meeting as the club was reviewing his performance during the just ended season or past season he finds your reasons for terminating the contract unjustifiable in any event. Our client therefore treats your conduct as breach of contract.”
Nyemera was receiving k320,000,00 as a monthly allowance hence claiming k3,840,000.00 (accumulative figure).
In response, Silver chairperson, Victor Madhlopa said all the players were compensated.
Before the start of the season, Silver offloaded 20 players including Nyemera, Mtonyo, Green Harawa, Victor Limbani, Blessings Kameza, Damiano Kunje, Timothy Chitedze and Mphatso Philimon.
The club embarked on a rebuilding exercise as they recruited Foster Biton, Chikondi Kamanga, Mischek Malaisha, Patrick Macheso and Stain Davie.
