CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-Tonse alliance presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday told the people of Chitipa that his government will put an end to tribalism saying Malawi is one and it should not be divided along tribal lines.

In his speech at the whistle stop tour in Chitipa, Chakwera said recent events have divided people along tribal lines making it difficult for Malawians to move freely in their own country.

Chakwera explained that once Tonse alliance is voted into power, Malawians will enjoy peace and unity and the country will be free from tribalism as every Malawian will feel welcomed wherever they go in the country.

“We want to build one Malawi so that people should be feeling comfortable wherever they go in Malawi, for example people from north should be going to the southern region and be comfortable there and like wise people from southern when they come here in the north, “said Chakwera.

The Tonse Alliance torchbearer also urged the multitude that graced the whistle stop tour to go and verify their names so that they will be able to cast their vote in the forthcoming elections on June 23, 2020.

“Everyone should go and verify their name so that no one is sidelined during the dayof voting, I can also assure you that your vote will be secured and will not be stolen again, “ added Chakwera.

In his speech at the rally, commander in Chief for Citizens for Transformation Movement (CFT), TimothyMtambo said that he is concerned with comments from other sectors of people who calls him a foreigner saying that is tribalism which should be stopped.

“I am a true son of Malawi and I also happen to be a chief, so the claims that I am a foreigner are not only wrong and baseless, but are also an insult to me and the people of Chitipa gathered here because I am their son,”said Mtambo.

Malawi is set to have fresh presidential elections on June 23, 2020 after Parliament agreed on the said date.
