Malawi’s religious body eases tension between Muslims & Christians on schools dressing code

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-In an effort to come up with lasting solution to address misunderstandings in both public and church run schools regarding the dress code.

A quasi religious body Public affairs committee ( PAC) is engaging faith leaders from each of the two faith groupings.

The meetings are being held in Blantyre in order to re – examine and adopt issues and recommendations on dress code.

Starting with Muslim leaders on Thursday September, 17 and Christian leaders the next day.

Speaking at the workshop on Thursday PAC chair monsignor Dr Patrick Thawale stated that as a religious body is exploring all avenues and possibilities in order to achieve a common goal.

Both brother Osman Karim of Quadria muslim of Malawi and secretary general of Muslim association of Malawi Alhaj Twaibu Lawe expressed gratitude and showed optimistic that the final solution will be found through the initiative.

At the end of the two day workshop both sides will identify seven people to form a 14 member joint technical team to analyze issues and develop recommendations.

The outcome will be forwarded to the government through the Ministry of Education for proper redress.

Religious groupings such as Muslims, Rastafarians and Jehovah witness among some, have been pressing the Government to come up with dressing code for public and faith organizations run schools that will be accommodative to all.
