MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-The country’s utility body, Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi (ESCOM) has been forced to provide power to frustrated man who held vigil at Mzimba Escom offices in protest over delays by the corporation to connect power to his private secondary school.
This is despite the man allegedly paying a connection fee of MK81,000 in 2018.
This should be a lesson for the utility body of taking a ride for its customers hence also mindset change..
Public Relations Officer for ESCOM Innocent Chitosi confirmed the development that the company has indeed connected electricity to the school.
But Chitosi explained that the delay was due to lack of connecting materials.
Some quarters of the society has expressed sadness over ESCOM’s power delay connections.
“ESCOM behaves as if it is a free electricity supplier, Our government need to bring in a competitor because of the way this company behaves” said one of concerned citizens, Chiko Nkuta.
President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse administration promised Malawians free electricity and water connection ahead of June 23, 2020 presidential elections.
Malawians are yet to start benefiting from the promise as the current 2020/2021 national budget did not include most Tonse promises.
